How to Choose the Perfect Yarn for Your Crochet Bag
Share
Choosing the right yarn can make or break your crochet bag project. The right fibre gives you structure, durability, and that “just right” drape you’re looking for.
Fibre Matters:
🌸 Cotton – My top choice for tote bags and market bags because it’s strong, washable, and holds shape well.
🌸 Blends – Cotton/acrylic blends can give you durability with a little more softness and flexibility.
🌸 Avoid Stretchy Fibres – Wool and bamboo can be beautiful, but they stretch over time, which may not be ideal for a bag that needs to hold weight.
Yarn Weight:
🌸 Worsted/Aran (10 ply) is my go-to for structured bags like the Whispering Waves Tote.
🌸 DK (8 ply) works well for smaller handbags or softer, slouchy shapes.
Pro Tip: Swatch your stitches before committing to the whole bag. It’s the easiest way to make sure your yarn choice will give you the results you want.
